What’s That Leak Costing You?
A silent running toilet can waste 200 gallons a day — about $200–$700 a year on your water bill. Enter your water rate and leak type in our free calculator and see your number (EPA WaterSense data, math shown — no signup, no ads).

The Numbers Behind the Advice
Most “average water bill” articles quote one national figure and cite nobody. So I built the thing I wanted to read: a 31-city comparison of what a household water leak actually costs, priced off 2025 municipal water and sewer tariffs and normalized so the cities are genuinely comparable. The same leak that costs $65.91 a year in Las Vegas costs $389.56 in San Francisco — identical water, identical waste, only the ZIP code changes.
The dataset is free to download, carries no affiliate links, and shows its math. If you’d rather know how the product picks here get made, that’s written up in how we pick.
